Hi, I'm Patrick Curry, and this is my little piece of the Internet.
I'm a video game designer living, working and teaching in Chicago. I rarely post on this blog anymore.
My game design credits include Guilty Party, Stranglehold and Stubbs the Zombie.
I like video games. I’ve made a few…
We’re still hard at work on Guilty Party for the Wii. This is a game I’ve always wanted to make. A game for the whole family where you can all act silly, but still use your brains a little. I’m really excited to see what happens when y’all get your hands on this one…
John Woo Presents Stranglehold (full title) is the video-game sequel to John Woo’s 1992 film, Hard-Boiled. Just like the film, the game stars Chow Yun-Fat, also known as the world’s coolest guy. It’s a hard-core shoot-em-up with crazy stunts, destructible environments, and endless waves of baddies to blow away. Stranglehold is also out now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Tired of killing hundreds of thousands of zombies day in and day out? Stubbs the Zombie is the action/adventure game where you get to play as the zombie, and well, do what zombies do: eat brains! Stubbs is a fun mix of very dark humor with over-the-top action gameplay. 1UP.com calls it “the best game you’ve never heard of.” Stubbs is out now for Xbox, PC and Mac.

Everyone has their own Project X. My “Project X” was a hard-hitting, rock-n-roll powered action game being developed at Skylab for the Xbox and PC. Like many other games, it never saw the light of day, despite a lot of hard work and enthusiasm. Some day Project X might ride again.
Game Designer Trivia is a game designed to test just how much you know about your favorite games and the people who created them. Think you know a lot about games? Let’s find out!

The Open Chess Project is my attempt to create the perfect way to waste time. It’s a simple version of chess that you can play online with a friend, but there are two catches: 1. It doesn’t require Flash, Shockwave, Java, or any of those other fancy technologies. 2. You and your friend don’t have to both be online at the same time. It will email you when your friend moves, and vice-versa.

Back before 1UP stole my tag-line, I was calling GridBloc the “best game you never heard of.” GridBloc is a mischievously simple board/puzzle game that you can play with a friend on your computer, PDA or cellphone. Sadly, I think the GridBloc gameplay server is down, but there is still a ton of amazing artwork living at the Gridbloc site!
Tanks is an attempt by James Craig and me to create a fun game that’s playable with only a web-browser and fits within 5k of memory. There are better ways to execute this functionality nowadays, but back in 2002 it was pretty cool stuff. I hope to some day return to and expand on this idea…
